Contra Dance, Saturday, November 2, 2024, 6:30p
Olde Tyme Community Contra Dance: Saturday, Nov 2 at the Macon County Library!
Beginners are welcome! Experienced dancers help the beginners get started. No need to bring a partner, but you are welcome to do so. Children over age 8 who are game to participate may also attend.
Each of the dances will be taught by the caller who calls out the moves in time to cue the dancers. Many of the moves may be familiar to you, as contra dancing is similar to square dancing. A few square dances, circle dances, and fun crazy family dances may be thrown into the mix, too!
This month will be extra-special: it is our 2-year anniversary of returning to dancing after halting the dances in Franklin because of the pandemic. We'll have a bunch of snacks for you, and some other fun to dress-up the evening! We so look forward to dancing with you!
Also note that there is a special art exhibit at the Library for Nov & Dec: Qualla Arts & Crafts Mutual: Tradition & Innovation. Consider arriving a few minutes early, say 6-ish, to visit the exhibit and with other dancers so we can get to know each other more! (There will be no December dance for all the Christmas activities, so this is it for us until January.)
Charley Harvey will lead us in contras, a few squares and perhaps other types of group dances this month. Charley has been calling dances for more than 30 years, from Denmark to Japan and calls dances throughout the Southeast on a regular basis. Charley is noted for clear and concise teaching (he is great with beginners!) and an enthusiasm that is contagious!
Says Charley: "My goal as a caller is very simple. Deliver the most fun to the most people possible."
Suggested donation: $10/person (kids age 14 & under are free)
Lesson at 6:30pm. Dance 7-9pm. First-timers dance FREE!
Bring a few friends to try Contra Dancing for free!
Arrive at 6:30 to get a jump-start on the moves!
